A couple of newlyweds smile under a pergola adorned with white flowers and warm lights. She is wearing a lace dress and he is in an elegant suit, both gazing at each other with love. Around them, a small group of guests is applauding and enjoying the moment in a cozy, nature-filled setting. The atmosphere is intimate and romantic, highlighting the closeness and happiness of the newlyweds.

Intimate weddings have gained popularity in recent years, standing out for their warmth, authenticity, and special charm. Instead of large and elaborate events, many couples are opting for smaller, cozier celebrations where every detail reflects their personality and love. If you are considering an intimate wedding, here are some tips to plan and capture those magical moments.

Defining How Intimate It Will Be

Planning an intimate wedding can be challenging, especially if you haven’t yet determined the number of guests. As a couple, your first decision will be whether you want a wedding with a very limited number of guests or one where it’s just the two of you and your officiant. Both options maintain the magic and intimacy, and it will all depend on your decision as a couple.

Choosing the Perfect Venue

The venue is crucial for creating the intimate atmosphere you’re looking for. Consider options that are meaningful to you and your partner, such as a family home, a new or nostalgic destination, a small restaurant, or even your own home. If you plan to hire photography/video services, it’s important to consider a space that allows for capturing beautiful moments as a couple and/or with your guests.

Is It Important to Have Photos and/or Video at an Intimate Wedding?

Having an intimate wedding has many advantages, but it can also come with the downside of feeling guilty for not inviting certain family members or friends to share the moment with you. One way to remedy this guilt or respond to comments from those who couldn’t attend is by sharing memories of the day through photos and/or video. We recommend creating a selection of photos or even a specific video to share, and another more private one for you to remember as a couple. We’ve worked with couples who requested an extra video omitting their vows to share with family/friends, as well as couples who asked for two galleries: one complete and one specifically made for sharing with loved ones. Hiring a photography and/or video service does not eliminate the intimacy you can create for your ceremony/day.

Creating a Unique Experience

Be bold—this ceremony is yours. Feel free to create a custom experience, including elements in your ceremony that represent your relationship. Choose a playlist as a couple and let go of conventional wedding traditions. Make every detail a part of you, from the decoration, order of the day, vows, couple’s session, to what you’ll do at the end of your ceremony. Why not have a “trash the dress” session that same afternoon? The decision is yours.

An intimate wedding is not just a rising trend but an opportunity to create lasting and authentic memories. With careful planning and attention to detail, you can create a celebration that truly reflects your love and personality, leaving an indelible impression on everyone present. Happy planning!
